So I'm kind of not in a very good mood today. Not sure why.
There I was, sitting in Psych, when suddenly I felt like I hated most everyone in the room. Sure, a lot of my classmates get on my nerves frequently, what with their seeming lack of common sense, but today I just hated being in that class entirely.

One kid in particular, not sure who, made me facepalm just short of hurting myself. We were talking about risk behaviors and health, and we saw a chart of the nine leading causes of death in the US, eight of which were behavioral risks. One of them was risky sexual behavior. We also saw a chart with percentages of high school kids who engaged in risky behaviors. 47 percent had had sex, with 37 percent not having used a condom. This guy asks, "hurr how can sex be risky?"

...really? REALLY?

Ever heard of AIDS? HIV? Numerous other STDs? Teen pregnancy?
Goddamnit, it's like no one thinks anymore.

Like a week or two ago in Comp. Not sure if I told this story already; if I did, here it is again. We were talking about cultural something-or-other in Comp, I think cultural icons and recognizable images, and our teacher does a pose like Napoleon (hand in his coat). No one in class really gets it, though, so he mentions it's Napoleon. This girl in class (I shit you not) says, "Napoleon? Like Napoleon Dynamite? Who's Napoleon?"



Then, to explain it to her, someone says he was a French sailor, and another chimes in, "He had a big hat."



Yup, he was a French sailor with a big hat. He totally didn't sell us a third of America or control an empire which spanned the majority of Europe. He was just a French guy with a funny hat.

Honestly, it was like I could feel the rage splitting my head apart. How the fuck do you get into college and not know who goddamn Napoleon Bonaparte is, even in basic terms? Even if you just know he was a French emperor or conqueror and don't know any particular details (I know I haven't particularly studied him all that closely), it's better than knowing he was a guy with a hat.

I really have to stop letting stupid people get to me, but goddamn is it hard when it seems like you're fucking surrounded by them.
